Gregg Doud, oftheWashington, D.C.- based U.S. Wheat Associates, addressed wheat producers attending this year's Kansas Wheat Commission annual meeting in Sallna. Through the GATT agreement, he said, the United States wants European governments to re- duce their heavy production and expo~ subsidies. "The pollUcians have watered down what weX, e been planning on doing," he said. *It's amazing how politicians can mess up something that's fairly simple." Doud also told how the North Ameri- can Free Trade Agreement could hurt American farmers. He quoted a USDA report "which says Canada subsidized its wheat exports by $43 to $50 per metric ton, compared to America's $36 EEP bonus. "We're going to start mak- ing a lot of nolse about this," he said. "It scares us to death that they could get a separate agreement with Mexico." Gregg is the son of Eldon and Joan Doud of Mankato and is a 1985 gradu- ate of Mankato High School.
