Flossie Beck
Florence Evelyn (Motes) Beck, 73,
died Nov. 5 at Jewell County Hospital,
Mankato.
She was born Aug. 17, 1930, at the
farm home at Scottsville to Reed
Venton and Florence Louise (Bowles)
Motes.
She married Clarence Beck in 1951
at Hiawatha. He survives.
She was preceded in death by her
father, Reed Motes, and two sons, Ed-
ward and Jack.
Besides her husband, survivors in-
clude her mother, Louise Motes, Man-
kato; a daughter Mrs. Mike Leaf
(Sherry), Wellington; four grandchil-
dren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were Nov. 8 at Melby
Mortuary Chapel, Mankato, with
Michael Leaf officiating. Interment
was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Man-
kato. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, was
in charge of arrangements.
Elizabeth Grimm
Elizabeth Grimm, 103, Mankato,
died Nov. 5 at Jewell County Hospital
Long Term Care, Mankato.
She was born at Burchard, Neb.,
Nov. 6, 1899, to Robert and Mary
(Pepperl) Shearer.
E1Pzabeth attended West Branch
Rural School through the eighth grade.
She married Walter W. Grimm at Paw-
neeCity, Neb., May 13, 1918.
When Walter returned from serv-
ing in World War I, they came to
Jewell County in the caboose of a train
where they purchased farm land south-
west of Formoso. Lizzie was involved
in the farming operation.
She was a member of Mystic Circle
Club, Formoso Senior Citizens and
Pride Club and Ladies Aide.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by
Few tombstones remain in ~e Mt. Carmel Cemetery, located near the
church site. The church, built in 1906, was abandoned in 1929. Mt. Carmel is
described by some as the highest point in Jewell County.

Mildred McElroy
Mildred Marie (Wallace) McElroy,
86, died Nov. 9 at Hilltop Lodge, Be-
loit.
Mildred was born Oct. 3, 1917, in
Buffalo Township in Jewell County to
Roy E. and Elta B. Wallace and was a
lifetime resident of Randall.
On Aug. 22,1937, Mildred married
William F. MeElroy Jr., Beioit.
Mildred attended Randall schools
and graduated from Randall Rural High
School in 1935.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, husband and a great-grand-
daughter.
Survivors include sons, Roger, Can-
yon, Texas; Donald, Ellis; a daughter
Mrs. Bill (Diane) Edwards,
Bloomington, Ill; eight grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren; two sis-
ters, Cleo Reystead, Scottsdale, Ariz.,
and Vida Samuelson, Medford, Okla.
Services are today (Thursday) at 1 l
a.m. at Randall Community Church,
Randall, with burial at Randall Cem-
etery.

Survivors include hersons, Chester,
Washington; Robert, Formoso; Mrs.
Wayne Robbins (Donna), Grand Junc-

grandchildren; a sister, Marie Yarpe,
Lincoln, Neb.
Services were Nov. 8 at Formoso
Community Church with Pastor Rob-
err Elwell officiating. Burial was in
Batch Cemetery near Formoso. Ar-
rangements were made-by Tibbetts-
Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville.

Larry Wyman
Services for Barbara Wyman, 53,
and Larry Wyman, 55, both of Portis,
are today (Thursday) at Cawker City
Baptist Church with burial in Prairie
Grove Cemetery. Waconda Funeral
Home, Cawker City, is in charge~of
arrangements.

for pheasant hunting were Nanette
Dunstan and David Carpenter, Man-
hattan; Elwin Dunstan and Janie Sigle,
Hays; and Earl Dunstan, Scandia.

Becky Blair entertained weekend hunt-
ers and visitors: Rickard and LaVaugh
Loibl, Richie Loibl and boys, Mark
and Genia Loibl and family, Steve and

of Wichita; Sarah Harris, Manhattan;

State Senator Mark Taddiken vis-
ited with several during his listening
tour atJewell County Courthouse Mon-
day morning.
VFW Post No. 7830 and Ladies
Auxiliary had the Veteran's Day pro-
gram at the Little Theater at the Man-
kato High School Monday. Students
provided special musical numbers.
Weekend visitors and pheasant
hunters of Merla Hulhert were Rex
Hulbert, Euless, Texas, Jobn Henry,
Arlington, Texas, Jay TibbL%,Tulsa,
Okla., Dean Oswald, Arkansas; Alan
Hiflhert and family, Valley Center;
James Hulbert and family, Manhattan.
Newell Alexander is home from the
Lincoln, Neb., hospital after having
heart surgery.
Bert and Audrey Diamond attended
the funeral fo~ her aunt, Glenadine
Lorimer, in Superior.
