Having taken that .position, I will write about one of the ~ssues that is now being discussed in Congress. If I were a member of Congress I would sponsor the following solution to the Social Security problem: (1) pass a bill that all Social Security money be used only for Social Security; (2) all IOU notations related to Social Secu- rity be made into legal interest bearing note.s, the interest figured annually and paid into Social Security trust fund; (3) keep Social Security much as it now is; (4) Medicare and Medicaid be contin- ued much as they now are; (4) pre- scription drugs be cared for just like doctor and hospital bills arc cared for by Medicare. Group collects cell phones for reuse Heartbeat Pregnancy Center is col- lecting used cell phones to help fund services in the North Central Kansas area. Phones may be donated by plac- ing them in collection boxes in area businesses or by calling 738-3433 or 800-585-3433. The cell phones--not cordless phones used in houses or bag phones used in vehicles--do not need to be in working order. They will be refur- bished and used for underdeveloped countries that are just beginning to receive cell phone coverage. Phones that cannot be refurbished will be re- cycled and disposed of according to EPA regulations. By donating phones to the center, a tax deduction based on the fair market value, determined by the donor, can be obtained. An in-kind donation receipt will be provided for tax records. The suggested deduction by IRS is $100 for working flip phones, and $50 for all other working used cell phones Collection boxes along with instruc- tions for receiving the tax deduction are placed in area businesses in Beloit, CawkerCity, Concordia, Downs, Glen Elder, Jewell, Mankato, and Randall.
