Bonnie Tanis and Genny Tanis re- turned Tues., July 28 from a I0 day visit with friends and relatives in Cali- fornia. They enjoyed slght-seeing and points of interest as well as renewing friendships. The trip was made by air from Wichita. Mrs. Wendell Prins (Brenda} and children from Granger, Washington, are spending a few days with her parents, M/M Kenneth Otte. M/M Lawrence Tanls spent last weekend with M/M RodneyJansen and family, Grinnell, Iowa. The Tanis' spent Mankato Area News part of the previous week in Des Moines, Iowa for an army buddy reunion. Leanne and children accompanied the Tanis' home for a visit. Sunday morning Linda Groenendyk and Leanne Jansen sang for special music accompanied by Stacy DeBey. The annual church picnic will be Aug. 14 at 6:30 p.m. Happy Birthday to Mary Rotman and Regina Groenendyk, Aug. 2; Jlhan Arnold and Chuck Koops, Aug. 5; James Vanhemert, Aug. 6; Henrietta Vander- Glesen, Aug. 7; and Jan Schoen and Lawrence Tanis, Aug. 8. M/M Chet Hanson attended the Mitchell County Fair last week. Jessica Lange was Reserve Champion in the Senior ~ of the Purchased Style Review. She was also Reserve Cham- pion in the Senior Division of the Con- structed Garment Style Review. The 3- piece silk tailored suit she constructed won a state fair purple, as well as the stained glass decorated clock, and the full body sculpture of herself. Nathan Lange's cross-bred gilt was Grand Champion in the FFA Hog Show at the Fair. M/M Chet Hanson attended a base- ball game at Belolt recently. The Dodger's Levi Langes's team, finished the season with an 8-I record and won second place in the tournament. Levi was catcher on the Dodger's team this sea- son. The David and Figgins Harvest Crew finished harvesting at Antn, CO this week. They moved from there to Fort Benton, MT, where they started cutting on Friday, July 31. They will also cut at Ledger, and Cut Bank, MT. before re- turning to Johnson, KS in the fall. Chet Hanson's daughter and husband, George and Olga Tehl Bighia are spend- ing a few days with the harvest crews In Montana. The Bighias are traveling in a motor home and axe on their way to their home in Omaha. They have spent two months in Alaska sightseeing and fishing. Joyce David, Karen Figgins, and Olga Tehl Blghia all attended Mankato High School and graduated with the class of 1966. Philip Walton, while flying for Mal- colm Aerial Spraying, experienced en- glne failure and landed in a wheat field on July 27. Walton was not injured. ~Michelle and Jim Kennedy of Clay Center, NE are visiting for the weekwith their grandparents Doris and Rex Ken- nedy. Sunday visitors at the John Bartholomew home were Richard Bartholomew, Armeshla, Seth, Tanner and M/M Frank Zach, Munden, KS. M/M Jerry Klnsey, Jerod and Alison, Michelle Klnsey, Junction City, and Stephanie Palen, Belolt, were in Man- hattan over the weekend making the acquaintance of their new grandchild and nephew, Matthew Lee Swank, who was born on Friday. Mrs. Kinsey stayed to help out in the Swank home. Vicki Cramer and Luke North Miami, FL and Cindy Logan, Manhattan re- cently spent several days in Mankato with their parents, Bill and Marie Logan. Special activities were attending the Threshing Bee and Jewell County Fair as well as taking Luke on his first horse back ride, fishing, and going to see Jacob Latta's kittens. Callers were Bill and Alethat Logan and Lloyd and Donna Johnson, Lloyd Jr. and Annmarie for an early 3rd birthday celebration for Luke.
