For patients with certain types of testicular cancer, the cure rate is 90 percent or more when the disease is detected early and treated promptly, said Mike Bradshaw, K-State Research and Extension health and safety spe- cialist. Early warning signs include a lump on, or in the testicle; heavy sensation in the testicle or groin; change in consis- tency or enlargement of the testicle; or an aching in the lower abdomen or scrotum. Genetic factors which influence the likelihood oftesticular cancer are listed: an identical twin with testicular can- cer; family history of the disease; atro- phy of the testicles due to mumps or a viral infection: or undescended tes- ticles in infants and young children.
