Ronnie Russell
Ronald Samuel Russell, 73, died
March 3 at Hilltop Lodge, Beloit, where
he had resided since May 2000. He
was born to Henry S. and Gertrude
Hancock Russell Oct. 20, 1942, in his
grandparents' home at Randall.
Ronnie, as he was known, and his
family lived in Randall until he was
five years old and then moved to
Mankato when his father accepted a
job with the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
Ronnie attended school in Mankato
and at the age of 15 illness hit him.
Much time was in the KU Medical
Center running tests. It was found he
had a crippling muscle disorder, with
no known cure.
This didn't stop Ronnie from en-
joying life. He used his bicycle for
transportation to make trips around
Mankato visiting with friends. It was
an effort for him, but he never com-
plained and always had a smile for
those he met. Much time was passed at
the barbershop visiting with the guys.
kfter his mother died, Ronnie and his
brother, Roger, took up house keeping
until he was admitted to Hilltop.
Times were special for Ronnie, as
he especially liked visiting with his
grandparents and family in Randall.
His love was riding his bicycle, watch-
ing ball games (especially KU basket-
ball), listening to music, and in the
summer being in the wheat field watch-
ing the combines run. Ronnie liked his
candy and his favorite was peanut but-
ter cups, although he wouldn't turn
down cupcakes. His favorite drink was
Dr. Pepper.
Ronnie was preceded in death by
his parents and brother.
He is survived by his aunt, Opal
Brandon, Resident Care Center, Beloit;
cousin, Thelma Shelton, Jewell; and
other relatives and friends.
Funeral was held Monday at Hill-
top Lodge, Beloit. Cremation was cho-
sen. A private family memorial will
take place at a later date. Schoen Fu-
neral Home and Monuments, Beloit, is
handling arrangements.

wishes in their upcoming move to

the library in the past. Mr. and Mrs.

Word was received this week of
the deathofMichael"Tony" McMullen
